Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner
One of the courses I've taken at Auburn is titled "multimedia writing for public relations." This
course taught us in depth how to write certain public relations releases. The media kit was one of our biggest
projects to work on. A media kit is a versatile promotional tool used in public relations to promote a product or company
and give the company a way to show how it is run
in their eyes. My media kit includes a backgrounder, fact sheet, staff biographies, news release, and an op-ed piece
that cover the basics of Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner.
For our media kit assignment, we got to choose which company we wanted to expand on and learn more about. I chose Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner because I've been a fan of her makeup products since the first release. Because Jenner's company is small and private, there wasn't a lot of information to look up about the company online. Because of this, I took information that I knew about the company and expanded on it to include information that I couldn't find online. For example, the staff biographies are not factual because Kylie doesn't release the name of her staff members to the public. Preparing a media kit in this fashion has better prepared me for the future because I know how to put one together from scratch.
The front cover of my media kit was created using Microsoft Word. I took Kylie's brand logo and placed it in the center of the page along with the dripping lips icon she uses on her lip product packaging. I then added a lip gloss swatch to the bottom of the page with the transparency set at 75 percent for another pop of color. I focused on lip products for the cover page because when Kylie Cosmetics first started, Jenner's primary focus was liquid lipsticks and lip glosses.
