Adopt Don't Shop
This infographic was designed using Canva. My "Adopt Don't Shop" infographic shows five gruesome statistics about
animal shelters and the horrors of euthanization.
Spreading awareness of animal shelters and adopting animals is something I'm very passionate about. My cat, Ruben,
was adopted from an animal shelter and is truly the light of my life. There is a stigma that all pets
that come from animal shelters are mean or too shy to be around humans and this couldn't be more opposite of my shelter animal.
Ruben is so playful, loves other cats, and is always cuddling up to me while I sleep. Some of the sweetest animals
come out of animal shelters because they want to be shown the love and attention they deserve.
When researching the statistics associated with animal shelters, I was astounded by how many animals are euthanized and abandoned each year. There are numerous "no kill" shelters in each state, but shelters that do kill animals to make space for new intakes can euthanize animals that have been there longer in such a short amount of time. I encourage everyone to research further into animal shelters and the sad truth that is behind them.
When creating this infographic, I chose a color scheme that was aesthetically pleasing to catch the attention of viewers. I used a lot of red, which is a bold color that can exemplify strength, power, love, and passion which are all attributes associated with animal shelter adoptions. Graphic images related to animals were added to each statistic to make the flyer more personable and attractive. These statistics are not meant to scare or sadden viewers, but meant to raise awareness on the horrors of euthanization and encourage adopting over shopping to those looking to bring a furry friend home.
